Welcome to the United Congregational Church Learning Center webpage and another special year in the education of your child(ren)!
The information you’ll find on this page has been updated to accommodate the
new school year – September 2007 through May 2008. I would recommend that you start by entering the Plan and Program link to see exactly what lessons and programs
will be offered to your children this year, and then venture further, depending
on your child(ren)’s needs. Your most used link will most likely be the weekly page which will tell you exactly what’s happening in the
current week: the liturgical color for
the acolytes, whether or not there is Children’s Time in the Sanctuary, who is
teaching your child’s class that week, what the lesson is, and so on. It will
save a lot of confusion on Sunday mornings!
This year we will begin a whole new year of Jr./Sr. High programs, and fundraisers as well.
The Jr. and Sr. High students will be attending regular classes on
Sunday mornings, and the Jr. High students will be embarking on the second year
of their two-year confirmation program.
If all goes well, these kids will be confirmed in the fall of 2008, but
in the meantime we have plenty of classroom, worship, fundraising, and social
experiences for them. Keep your eye on
the Calendar of Coming Events and the Good News as the year progresses.
We happily welcome back our Nursery Supervisor, Archana Sharma, and her two
assistants, Becky Peckham and Mitchell Kalble, this year to oversee the Nursery
and Toddler care. Every Sunday, under
Archana’s supervision, the nursery team (which includes the nursery staff and a
weekly volunteer) makes sure the nursery is caringly monitored, ultra-safe, and
super clean. You can leave your infant
or toddler in this loving environment with confidence and worship in
peace.
Four-
and five-year-olds are welcomed once again this year to the “Little Fishies” room. Their devoted teacher – Susan Potter Alves –
and an army of teaching assistants (volunteers) will be engaging the children
in activities such as music and song, role playing, games and physical
activities, crafts, and a variety of different hands-on symbols of renewal and
hope in their little world. Their
classes, as in all of the other grade levels, are lectionary based which means
the whole family takes home the same lesson, from a variety of perspectives, each
week.
In
order to keep your child safe and secure in our classrooms, we maintain safety
measures in our Learning Center. We
have fire emergency procedures posted in every classroom, and we embrace “Safe
Place” procedures at all times throughout the year. A copy of Our Church as Safe Space is available for anyone who
wishes to have one.
I hope you’ll find this website helpful in your child(ren)’s spiritual life and
guidance. Please refer to it often, but
know that you can also talk with me whenever you need to. Please don’t hesitate to call me in the
Learning Center Office (846 3515) or just stop by. I always welcome the time and the conversation with you.
In faith,
