CAMP OPPORTUNITIES

Irons Homestead

Irons Homestead is a campground owned and operated by our own Rhode Island Conference UCC. The grounds are used for most of the statewide summer camps (with the exception of senior camps, bike trips, etc.) and are also used for retreats and special Conference events. This full-facility campground features a new lodge with sleeping accommodations and a large function/dining room; a Pavilion; infirmary; campfire area; playground area; platform tent camping; fresh-water swimming; and large playing fields. We're extremely fortunate to have such a facility at our disposal.

RIUCC Outdoor Ministries

Each year, the Rhode Island Conference provides summer camping opportunities for children of all ages in the church school. Every year our church school sponsors the children in their continued spiritual growth by providing camperships to offset the cost of attending the Conference Camps (as well as United’s day camp!). As the summer approaches, all families will receive a brochure explaining the camps, the age/grade level breakdown, etc.  Get your kids involved in summer camp this year; it's an experience they will never forget!

Children's Weekend

This end-of-year event has become a tradition in our church school as the "grand finale" of all church school activities for the year. A camp-out in the children's cedar grove in the back of the church (everyone supplies their own tent) is complete with a pizza party, a sing-along around the campfire, toasted marshmallows and, in the morning, a hearty breakfast for all campers. At least one parent must accompany children who are camping out. On Sunday morning we’ll further honor our children with a special Children’s Worship featuring a slide show of the entire year’s events. This exciting weekend is brought to a close with the biggest all-church-family picnic of the year. We have plenty of food, family games, entertainment, and loads of fun. It's a not-to-be-missed event!

Summer Day Camp

This is our eleventh year to hold a Christian Summer Day Camp here at United for the children in our community. This year’s summer camp celebrates puppetry once again with a two-week puppet camp called “Shadowplay”!

Camp “Chill Out” (Winter Vacation Day Camp)

Hey!  Don’t miss our fun winter day camp, Camp Chill Out held during the public school’s winter vacation each year.   It’s a weeklong camp (8:00 a.m. – noon) featuring winter stories, winter activities indoors and out, winter-themed crafts, and more.  Don’t let your kids sit at home bored all winter vacation … send them to Camp Chill Out!

Good Friday Activity Day Camp

This is our annual one-day camp devoted to the meaning of Holy Week and assorted Easter celebrations and traditions. It’s an activity day that becomes increasingly popular by the year. Give your kids the opportunity to learn the answers to such questions as: “If Jesus died on Good Friday, why is it called Good Friday?” and  “Why do we dye Easter eggs?” and “Where did the Easter Bunny come from?”
