ADULT EDUCATION

United’s Educational Opportunities for Adults

Educational Trips and Tours

In the spring of 1997, we began offering travel opportunities to the people of United as part of our education program. The goal was to provide United's people with the ultimate learning experience: to travel to the places that touch our Christian hearts, and learn from these places by actually experiencing them. In the winter of 1998 our first trip took us to Israel and Egypt. We experienced everything from early morning worship on a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee, to an afternoon at the base of Mt. Sinai. In 2000 our adult pilgrimage took us to the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. Our trip included an extension into Switzerland, highlighted by a wonderful program at the World Council of Churches. We’ve also offered educational opportunities in the form of trips to England and Scotland as well as Nova Scotia. In 2006 our journeys followed the footsteps of Paul through Greece culminating with a fabulous cruise of the Greek Islands.  Italy was our destination in 2008 and since then, in 2010, we returned to Oberammergau to witness the Passion Play once again.  There are so many possibilities and places to explore in this world that can enrich our faith: the Cathedrals of Europe, our Wesleyan Heritage, a return trip back to the Holy Land, and the list goes on and on. Travel opportunities will be offered to our congregation at least every other year, and are not limited to members only.

Currently we are working with Temple Shalom to create a Judeo-Christian journey to Israel. Please watch the "Good News" and this website for more information about this exciting opportunity.  United's travelers are invited -- and encouraged -- to bring their friends to this ultimate classroom: the world

Second Helpings

Periodically, mini-studies and presentations are held in the Manchester Room following worship on Sunday mornings. These sessions, known as "Second Helpings", begin after fellowship in Farnum Hall and last for about an hour. "Second Helpings" meetings cover a wide variety of subjects (the minister’s morning sermon, a parishioner’s recent trip abroad, health care, etc.) and are announced in the Good News and in the worship bulletin.

FAMILY Bible Study

This school year we are adding a new element to our Sunday morning education program.  A Family Bible Study class will be held for adults and children each week at 9:00 a.m. in the Learning Center.  This adult-friendly/kid-friendly Bible study will follow the Lectionary and give all of the “learners” a backdrop for the morning’s message.   The class will meet in Farnum Hall unless otherwise specified.
